MacRostie Winery

Steve MacRostie was making Chardonnay on the Sonoma Coast before most people could point to it on a map.

He started in 1987, focused on cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir when the region was still proving itself. The Estate House opened decades later, set on a rise in the Russian River Valley with a terrace built for sitting still.

The architecture is worth the visit on its own, glass and wood opening onto the vineyard. But the reason to go is that the wines have four decades of the same hands behind them.
