Csaba Szakal is a fourth-generation Hungarian winemaker who ended up in Kenwood. He is usually the one pouring.

The wines run Napa Cabernet alongside Sonoma Pinot Noir, which is an unusual combination and reflects a winemaker following fruit rather than an appellation. The Kenwood tasting lounge is small and comfortable, and the conversation tends to go long.

It is a drive, about forty minutes through the valley. Go if you want to spend real time with the person who made what is in your glass.
